Rapid Buprenorphine Test is an immunochromatography based one step in vitro test. It is designed for qualitative determination of buprenorphine and its metabolites in human urine specimens.

Clinically, Buprenorphine is utilized as a substitution therapy for opioid dependence and as an analgesic. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist of the mu-opioid receptor. These mu binding sites are distributed in the human brain, spinal cord, and other tissue. The primary clinical utility of quantification of buprenorphine in urine is to identify patients that have strayed from opioid dependence therapy.

Commonly reported side effects of BUP include: constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, and nausea. Other side effects include: drug withdrawal, fatigue, vomiting, hyperhidrosis, and xerostomia.
